Why See Oregon Symphony - Karen Gomyo Plays Sibelius?
A Night of Violin
Internationally acclaimed violinist Karen Gomyo heads to Oregon to perform Jean Sibelius' only concerto. Famed for her vitality, brilliance and intensity Gomyo brings her extensive talent to the work of the great Finnish composer in an evening that is set to excite and enthral.
Working in the late Romantic and early-modern musical periods Jean Sibelius' compositions are often lauded as the voice of Finland. Created and performed during a time where Finland's national identity was coming into fruition, Sibelius' work was the country's resounding anthem as they struggled to gain independence from Russia. Still hugely celebrated in Finland, Sibelius' work is performed throughout the world to much global adoration.
