Portland Opera: Pirates of Penzance

Why see Portland Opera: Pirates of Penzance?

Portland Opera proudly presents the Pirates of Penzance - a tale of adventure set on the high seas inspired by the hit production at the 2011 Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

This comic opera tells the story of a young apprentice named Frederic, who was sent to work alongside pirates instead of pilots due to an unfortunately grammatical error. As his 21st birthday and release from service approaches, the pirates chance upon a group of beautiful maidens - fate intervenes and Frederic falls in love with one of them.

However, owing to the fact that he was born on February 29th, Frederic remains bound to serve alongside the pirates for another 63 years - his hopes to marry the beautiful Mabel seemingly dashed!

Talise Trevigne stars as Mabel alongside Ryan MacPherson in the lead role of Frederic. Bill Rauch directs the production in this, his Portland Opera directorial debut.
