Oregon Symphony - Scheherazade and Celilo Falls

Why see Oregon Symphony - Scheherazade and Celilo Falls?

Orchestral Adventures

Oregon Symphony Orchestra take us on a sonic adventure with Scheherazade Rimsky-Korsakov's captivating interpretation of The Arabian Nights - and principal Cello Nancy Ives' journey down Celilo Falls, an audio-visual celebration of an ancient waterfall that once stood on the Columbia River. Conducted by David Danzmayr, don't miss this thrilling concert!

By turns dazzling and exhilarating, Rimsky-Korsakov's 'narrative in sound' Scheherazade is an interpretation of age-old fairytales. As we're taken in by the titular storyteller, Rimsky-Korsakov captivates us through beguiling melodies and rhythms inspired by both Russian music and the allure of the Middle East as seen through the eyes of an 1800s Russian composer. Meanwhile, cellist and composer Nancy Ives' Celilo Falls is a collaboration with Native American poet and playwright Ed Edmo and photographer Joe Cantrell, exploring through music, words and pictures the titular waterfall which once stood in Oregon but was destroyed to build the Dalles Dam.
