The Italian symphony is making great progress. It will be the jolliest piece I have ever done

Mendelssohn transports us to the vivid climes of Italy with his gloriously rich Symphony No.4. Composed following his famed jaunt around Europe from 1829 - 31, it evokes the color and culture of the country. Calling it his 'jolliest piece' it has remained a firm audience favorite and is presented once more in this mixed program featuring the blazing talent of violinist Sarah Kwat and conducted by Carlos Kalmar.
Alongside this radiant work, the program offers the chance to experience Wagner's Flying Dutchman Overture, Vaughn Williams' The Lark Ascending and a world premiere, Drum Circle from Christopher Theofanidis.
