Percussionist Colin Currie performs Elfman's concerto
Oregon Symphony Orchestra brings concert of contemporary classical mastery, headlined by renowned Scottish percussion Colin Currie with the concerto composed especially for him by famed film composer Danny Elfman. Premiered in 2022 at the Royal Festival Hall in London, the exhilarating work showcases the virtuosity of Currie, whose lengthy list of awards includes a Grammy, a Gramophone Classical Music award and a BBC Music Magazine Award.
Conducted by David Danzymayr, the program will also include Music for Pieces of Wood by Steve Reich, a composer whose work Currie is a specialist in, as well as John Adams' The Chairman Dances: Foxtrot for Orchestra and Respighi's opulent Pines of Rome.
