Billy Elliot

Billy Elliot at Newmark Theatre

Why see Billy Elliot?

here's billy

Don't miss this wonderful adaptation of the uplifting British movie about a boy whose passion for ballet unites the community his gruff Northern England town during the tumult of Margaret Thatcher's government and the 1984 miners strike. Presented by the Hasson Company and Pixie Dust Productions, this production features a book full of wit and heart from the film's screenwriter Lee Hall alongside a memorial original score by none other than Elton John!

He loves to boogie - the story of Billy Elliot

The story follows the titular Billy, a young boy growing up in a small English miner's town. Prospects and open minds are slim in this rural setting, so when Billy bucks the odds and trades his boxing gloves for a pair of ballet pumps (and turns out to have a gift for ballet), not everyone is pleased... With the help of the local dance teacher and a friend or two, Billy fights for his dancing dream, changing minds and hearts in the process.

Absolutely Incredible!

Billy Elliot is funny, touching and more! The set designs are amazing, as well as the lighting. The chorography is frightening - sometimes it looks like someone could get HURT up there!! The music is wonderful, and the entire cast performs at top notch. You will take Billy to your heart as if he were your son. The message is loud and clear and makes you feel alive. You are going to LOVE Billy Elliot. It's one of the best Broadway shows I've ever seen. The audience stands and applauds forever! Do not miss it!! ... Read more

Our New #1 Stage Show

My wife and I agreed Billy Elliot is the best stage show we've ever seen. That wouldn't mean much if we were in our 20s, or even our 30s, but we're both 70+ and have attended more than just a few stage shows during the past 50 years. The show was absolutely brilliant, to include the staging, choreography, and acting. The young man who played Billy on 12/18, whose name we unfortunatly can't recall (we're over 70), was fantastic; from the "Playbill" we do remember he is from the eastern part of Massachusetts. Some of the dialogue was difficult to catch due to the appropriate British/Scottish accents, but that in no way detracted from our enjoyment of the show. We can't recommend the Billy Elliot production at the Hippodrome highly enough. If you're looking for a fun night out at the theater, go see it!!! PS...Some language in the show may not be appropriate for young children; we'd grade it PG16. A young child sitting behing us, age about 12, just didn't enjoy the show. ... Read more

london production was fabulous

Haven't seen the tour version, but did catch the London version several years ago. London production was fabulous, and I expect the tour version will be close as tour production will hopefully follow formula. Will bring my daughter to see it again, as well as the rest of the family to see the Vancouver production. I read some harsh reviews on this board, so i hope the tour versions will live up (which i anticipate it will) to the 10 Tony awards the Broadway production received. i thought the accents added to the authenticity. cheers. ...
