ANNUAL TRADITION

This is the best Nutcracker performance I have ever seen, The dancers are excellent, the orchestra is wonderful and the set is enchanting. We buy the tickets in July and sit up close in row 3 or 4. We take my Mom and she loves it too. After the show, my brother takes us to The South Park Bar for a drink and dinner. Try to go when a live orchestra is present. It is incredible.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES!

We were very happy with great performances by the whole troupe! Very professionally done and loved all of the performers. These memories will last a lifetime for my grandchildren (7 & 8), my daughter, and I. Thank you for bringing this to Portland for all to enjoy. There were all ages that attended. Our seats were on the 2nd balcony, 2nd row, just off the middle. We had a great view and felt like we were close to the stage. We’d love to make this an annual event, one that memories are made of! We went on Sunday, 12/19/2021 5:30pm curtain time. Parking is just across the street and easy access to event. Elevator operators were very pleasant and ushers/usherettes were helpful. For those who need, there’s a drop off right in front of the auditorium and COVID testing was available for those who needed it with/without appts. and masks required. There are restaurants within walking distance. We choose to drive further in town to the outside vendors. It was quite an fun experience for all!

BEAUTIFUL AND ENCHANTING

I was delighted the entire time. The Waltz of the Snowflakes was one of the most beautiful displays of strength, talent, beauty and unity I’ve ever seen. Thank you to all of the amazing dancers, costume designers, orchestra members, Keller employees, choreographers for all of their tedious work in presenting us with this masterpiece. Bravo!

MISSING KEY STORY ELEMENTS

Too long intro, replaced russian dancers with silly bad dancers with hoops. Ended abruptly without showing her wake up. Very disappointing.

SLOW START

The first act was long and not that engaging. At one point I started dozing off. I have always loved this ballet but not sure I will attend next year. Mercifully the second act picked p.

PERFORMERS GREAT AND ORCHESTRA TERRIBLE

Lighting was superb ‘though some of the acts seemed a bit shorter. Big complaint was sound…it was tinny and definitely lacked definition even though we had seats near orchestra. Recorded music would have been more robust…could barely hear wood winds…like where were they. Lists of empty space in the orchestra bit…looked like shrinkflation.

DISAPPOINTING

Dancers did not appear to have been very well rehearsed. Synchronicity was off. Lead ballerina did not appear as confident or graceful as would be expected from the lead. Dancing itself was not as professional as productions I have seen in the past and many of the costumes were very plain or visually unappealing. The introduction and initial story line too long-very little dancing in the first Act. The production unfortunately left much to be desired this year. More practice, a bit more flare and professionalism please!
