I’ve been binging Waxahatchee and MJ Lenderman songs since the Beacon concert tickets went on sale months ago. Don’t get me wrong— the music was great in an intimate environment (living room-type stage with Katie Crutchfield & MJ sitting in chairs) and outstanding acoustics. But there was hardly any interaction with the audience, and as good as they sounded, very little energy from the band. I recognize this was an acoustics show, but how about standing up at some point during the show (the encore perhaps?) and showing some passion or emotion? My other beef: they played at least 4 cover songs (oddly, one of them was a Miley Cyrus song) done by other artists, despite the huge catalog both of them have. The one Lenderman song I was dying to hear—“She’s Leaving You”—didn’t make the cut. Again, show was good but left me wanting a lot more from two super-talented artists who could have given the audience (seated throughout the entire performance) a lot more to enjoy. Bring some energy!
