Portland's New Broadway Season Announced
Scarlet March 4th, 2021
Check out which Broadway hits are coming to Portland!
Portland is welcoming Broadway back to the Keller Auditorium in 2021! After over a year since the world was plunged into disruption with the COVID-19 pandemic, theaters across North America are gearing up to welcoming back shows and audiences in the coming year, including some of Broadway's biggest musicals on tour! On the roster will be the eleven-time Tony Award-winning Hamilton and the brilliantly fun Mean Girls. Check out the full season here!
Keller Auditorium: August 31 - September 5, 2021 Fresh off a hit run in London, this Olivier Award-winning new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's groundbreaking musical astounds on tour. Lacing together biblical drama with a propulsive rock and funk score, director Timothy Sheader reinvents the story for the modern age, paring back the more overblown aspects of the original for a truly rocking show.
Keller Auditorium: November 10 - 14, 2021 Tina Fey's Drama Desk award-winning Broadway musical, based on the 2004 Lindsay Lohan film, Mean Girls is out on tour! With a book by Fey, direction by Book of Mormon's Casey Nicholaw, music and lyrics by Jeff Richmond and Legally Blonde's Nell Benjamin - which includes tracks "Apex Predator" and "I'd Rather Be Me"- it's no surprise that the musical is Broadway's latest smash hit, earning 12 Tony nominations along the way.
Keller Auditorium: January 4 - 9, 2022 Having left Broadway spellbound, the exquisite, and ten-time Tony-winning musical from Itamar Moses and David Yazbeck is out on tour. A hit with critics and audiences alike, follow the fortunes of an Egyptian Police Band as they are stranded overnight in an isolated town in the Israeli desert due to a language mix up. Stuck waiting for the next bus and with no hotels in town, it falls on the friendly and curious locals to take in the musicians, where each side discover more about themselves and their shared humanity.
Keller Auditorium: February 8 - 13, 2022 Take an incredible journey to the past as the critically acclaimed, Broadway production of Anastasia heads on tour. Born from the pens of Obie and Tony-winning playwright Terrence McNally and Tony-winning writing team Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, who ruled the Great White Way with their smash hit Ragtime, the musical draws on the score of the beloved animated film and includes the memorable melodies of Once Upon A December and Journey To The Past.
Keller Auditorium: April 12 - May 1, 2022 The biggest Broadway show since The Book of Mormon has hit the road on its first ever national tour! Written by Tony, Grammy and Emmy Award winner Lin Manuel Miranda, Hamilton is a true landmark of American culture, tearing up the musical theatre rulebook with a score that is equal parts Sondheim and Notorious B.I.G., and a cast of ethnically diverse actors in the roles of the Founding Fathers. The story centers on Alexander Hamilton, one of our most important (and colorful) characters, who rose from his humble orphaned beginnings to play a major role in making America the country it is today.
Keller Auditorium: June 21 - 26, 2022 After an exciting revival on Broadway in 2016 - the first since its marathon 18-year run - Cats is heading out on tour, bringing the feline frolics to a town near you! Full of musical theatre classics, instantly recognizable costumes, and choreography and bursting with cat-itude, this iconic show is purrfect for newcomers and old-timers.
Keller Auditorium: July 19 - 24, 2022 Cleaning up during the 2018/19 awards season, plucky folk opera Hadestown garnered eight Tony Awards (including the coveted Tony for Best Musical), four Drama Desk Awards, six Outer Critics Circle Awards and a Drama League Award. This came as no surprise given the production received much acclaim during both its Off-Broadway and Broadway runs, praised for its soaring imagination, vibrant retelling of a classic story and a sumptuous score that evokes smoky New Orleans jazz and bubbling Americana-tinged folk. Don't miss out when the lauded musical hits the road on its hotly anticipated national tour!
Keller Auditorium: May 31 - June 5, 2022 This stage adaptation packs quite a creative punch. Marshall's vision is fulfilled by the movie's scribe J.F Lawton in penning the libretto, while Canadian rock god Bryan Adams and his songwriting partner Jim Vallance provide the score. Directing and choreographing the show is two-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, On Your Feet!).
